The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington DC observed the Sheikh Russel Day, 58th birth anniversary of the youngest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, in a befitting manner. The Embassy organised a programme at the Bangabandhu Auditorium on 18 October on this occasion.
Messages from the Hon’ble President and the Hon’ble Prime Minister on this occasion were read out by Economic Minister Mr. Mahdee Hasan and Minister (Consular) Mr. Md. Habibur Rahman, respectively.
Bangladesh Ambassador M. Shahidul Islam delivered a speech highlighting the life of Shaheed Sheikh Russel. He also paid deep tribute to the Father of the Nation and other members of his family. He said that Bangladesh is an example of maintaining communal harmony in the region but some unscrupulous people are trying to tarnish this image of the country. He asked all to remain cautious against such conspiracies.
A documentary on the memory of Sheikh Russel was screened at the event. A special prayer was offered, seeking eternal peace for the soul of Shaheed Sheikh Russel and others martyred on the fateful night of 15 August 1975.
