National Identity Card (NID) & Voter Registration and Distribution

The Embassy of Bangladesh in Washington, D.C. is pleased to announce the commencement of the National Identity Card (NID) and Voter registration and distribution services at the Embassy. Eligible applicants are requested to complete the application form by accessing the link provided below and schedule an appointment for biometric enrollment. Upon submission of the application form online, applicants are required to visit the Embassy/Consulates General in person on the date of appointment to provide biometric data and complete the application process.

INFORMATION AND GUIDELINES FOR NATIONAL IDENTITY CARD (NID) APPLICATION

Before applying, please read all instructions and application guidelines carefully.

Who can Apply?

Only new applicants (who do not have NIDs and have not applied in Bangladesh) are eligible to apply in the Embassy/Consulates General

Applicants must be above 16-years Bangladeshi origin national living in USA having required documents to prove his/her Bangladeshi origin.

The applicant must have a valid Bangladeshi passport /an expired Bangladeshi passport/A declaration form, stating that the applicant is a Bangladeshi citizen and attested by three Bangladeshi NID holders residing in the USA.

The applicant must have a 17-digit Bangladeshi Birth Certificate (all data of passport and birth certificate must be same).

Mandatory Physical Appearance

Please note that physical appearance is mandatory for biometric enrolment for NID applications, as such, applicants must take an appointment through the NID website.

NID Application Process

Step 1: Applicants must lodge their application online. Please apply online at https://services.nidw.gov.bd (While applying online, the applicants must provide one valid Bangladeshi phone number, as the Upazila Election Officer may contact them for identity verification purposes.)

Step 2: Appointment Booking: Applicants must make an appointment before visiting the Embassy/Consulates General. The appointment can be booked during applying online through the link https://services.nidw.gov.bd

Step 3: Biometric Enrolment: Applicants are required to appear in person on the date of appointment at the Embassy/Consulates General to submit their fingerprint, Iris scan, photograph and signature.

Step 4: Ready and Collection: The applicant will receive an enrolment slip after the completion of enrollment which will be required during the collection of smart NID card. The applicant will receive a system generated NID when it is ready which can be downloaded and used. The Embassy/Consulates General will be able to deliver the smart card once it is received from the NID Wing, Election Commission Secretariat, Bangladesh.

Required Documents

The following documents must be submitted to the Embassy/Consulates General-

Printed copy of the online filled-up application [Form 2 (KA)]

17digit Bangladeshi Birth Certificate (original + photocopy)

A copy of a valid Bangladeshi passport/an expired Bangladeshi MRP or e-passport/ A declaration form, stating that the applicant is a Bangladeshi citizen and attested by three Bangladeshi NID holders residing in the USA, may be submitted in the prescribed format. A copy of the applicant’s parents’ NID/ their Bangladeshi online birth certificate/ Bangladeshi death certificate (if deceased)/ passport copy/ inheritance certificate/ Bangladeshi citizenship certificate, or dual citizenship certificate (if applicable)

One recent passport-size photo

Additionally, if the applicants are from the Chattogram, Cox's Bazar, Rangamati, Khagrachari & Bandarban District, please fill up the Special Information Form. আবেদনকারীর বিশেষ তথ্য ফরম (ফরম-২ এর অতিরিক্ত)

The following documents can be asked from the applicants by the concerned Upazila Election Office in Bangladesh to complete the verification process-

1. Academic certificate (SSC/Equivalent Certificate/JSC/PSC)
2. Dual Citizenship Certificate
3. Bangladeshi driving license
4. Tax Identification Number (if applicable)
5. Nikahnama and Marriage or Talaknama and Divorce Certificate and Spouse's NID (if applicable)
6. Nationality certificate (from Bangladeshi Councillor/Chairman/Mayor/CEO/Administrator)
7. A copy of a Bangladeshi Utility Bill (showing address)/Holding tax receipt

Other Useful Information

Only new NID applicants can apply; existing NID holders will not be able to correct their NID from the Embassy/Consulates General.

The applicant needs both Bangla and English fonts to fill up the application form.

After application submission to the Embassy/Consulates General, there will be a verification process by the concerned Upazila Election Office in Bangladesh.

Providing false information is a punishable offence and may reject your application.

Processing time

The processing time for NID card may vary due to the thorough verification procedures implemented by the concerned Upazila Election Office. These checks are carried out to confirm the authenticity of the information provided during the application process.

Note

For future usage, keep your password and username available. Using your user ID and password, you can log in to the concerned portal and get your NID downloaded.
