E-passport

E-passport

Please read carefully all the instructions in this page before going to fill-in and submit the online application form. The link of the E-passport Online Registration Portal is given at the end of this page.

You are also requested to check the following link in order to know which Bangladesh mission you can apply to:

https://washington.mofa.gov.bd/en/site/page/Jurisdiction-of-the-Consulate-Generals

Who can apply for e-passport?

To apply for e-passport, you must have either a Bangladeshi NID card or a Birth Registration Certificate (BRC) having a 17 digit number which is verifiable at everify.bdris.gov.bd. In case of BRC, please make sure that the webpage having your verified BRC contains the necessary data, e.g. names of the applicant and the parents in English and they match with the corresponding data in your application. If they do not match, please contact the office from which the BRC was issued to do the necessary correction. Additionally, if you have become a US citizen, you need to show the Dual Nationality Certificate issued by the Government of Bangladesh. Otherwise, you are required to have a proof of your legal status in the US, e.g. valid visa or permanent resident card, etc.

The applicants with Bangladeshi passport having more than one year validity can't apply unless proved by a supporting document justifying the legitimate necessity.

Submission of Application and Enrolment

While filling-in the online application, you need to choose Washington mission as your passport office. Your present address must be an address in the USA and permanent address in Bangladesh.

It is mandatory to seek appointment and appear in-person for biometric enrolment after online submission of the application. Online appointment system at epassport.gov.bd resumed on 20 April 2022; hence we are no longer scheduling appointment by email. You can now schedule appointment during the process of applying online. If you have submitted the application earlier, please log into your account at epassport.gov.bd and schedule the appointment.

Please choose any available timeslot (either of regular or express delivery) to schedule your appointment. The appointment system is automatically operated within e-passport portal (epassport.gov.bd) which is maintained by the Department of Immigration and Passports in Dhaka. The Embassy has no access to the appointment system; so it is not possible for the Embassy to entertain requests for scheduling appointment.

Due to technical glitches of the appointment system, if you get an appointment on Saturday or Sunday or any other holiday, or if you miss the appointment date due to unavoidable circumstances, please come to the Embassy for enrolment any office day between 10 am to 1 pm after the scheduled date of appointment but before the date of registration expiration mentioned in the Application Summary. No rescheduling is required in these cases.

After scheduling appointment, please carefully go through this entire webpage to make sure you are fully prepared for the biometric enrolment.

After submission of your online application, if you find that certain data need to be corrected, please do not worry. Please correct the printout with pen. The official of the Embassy will make necessary changes to your application during biometric enrolment at the Embassy. Before completing your enrolment, you will be shown the draft delivery slip. You can sign the delivery slip after checking all your information.

Please do not send your application package or any document related to e-passport application by mail as you are required to come in-person by scheduling appointment. After biometric enrolment, your existing original passport will be immediately given back to you.

Once you arrive at the Embassy on the day of your scheduled appointment and submit your application to the counter of Passport & Visa Wing, it may take up to 3 to 4 hours before getting your turn to do the biometrics as there are six steps in the process of enrolment prior to capturing biometrics and most of the applicants come without the required documents; hence the concerned officials need to spend a lot of time helping those applicants prepare their application package.

Payment of Fees

Please  make a money order or cashier check or official check (not older than 30 days) payable to the 'Embassy of Bangladesh'. Cash or personal check or online payment is not accepted. While filling-in online application, please select 'Offline Payment'. Every application must be submitted with a separate money order or cashier's check or official check even if the applications belong to one family or group. You are required to submit the money order or cashier check or official check in-person during biometric enrolment at the Embassy. If you want to upgrade delivery type from 'regular' to 'express', please bring the required amount for the 'express' delivery. On the contrary, those who have submitted online application for 'express' delivery are not allowed to change it to 'regular' option.

Biometric Enrolment in Mobile Consular Camp

The applicants may come to any mobile consular camp organized by this Embassy for biometric enrolment of their e-passport applications. Before coming to the consular camp, the applicants need to submit online application at https://www.epassport.gov.bd/onboarding. For the purpose of submitting the application, the applicants can choose any available appointment date and timeslots. Irrespective of the appointment date, the applicants are allowed to do biometric enrolment in the consular camps. After submitting the application, please download the complete application having three pages, open it with Adobe Acrobat Reader and then print it so that the barcode at the bottom of the first page becomes compatible with the barcode scanner of the Mobile Enrolment Kit of e-passport. In addition, you need to bring all other required documents listed on this page.  Starting from 01 November 2024, biometric enrolment of e-passport service will be provided in all consular camps organized by this Embassy. The schedule of the upcoming consular camps can be tracked at https://washington.mofa.gov.bd/en/site/news/Upcoming-Mobile-Consular-Services and the Facebook page of the Embassy (https://www.facebook.com/BangladeshEmbassyUSA).

Delivery

By Mail: The applicants are requested to provide at the the time of enrolment a prepaid, self-addressed return envelope (USPS only) with tracking number and a copy of Bangladeshi NID card of himself/herself or that of the authorized representative so that when the new passport is ready for issuance, it can be delivered by mail. Separate return envelope for each applicant is to be provided because the processing time varies on the basis of the merit of each application. When the new passport comes from Dhaka and is officially received through the e-passport software at the Embassy, a system generated email with common template goes to the applicant from the Department of Immigration & Passports in Dhaka requesting the applicant to pick-up the passport from the local passport office, i.e. the Embassy in this case. Please do not get confused by this 'pick-up' message because if you have already provided the return envelope and copy of NID, your new passport will be mailed to you.

Click Here for Service Hours of Walk-in: The applicant may walk-in to the Embassy after getting the update from epassport.gov.bd that the passport is ready for issuance at the local passport office.
